The Colony of Seychelles didn't receive its own distinct coinage until 1939, having relied on Mauritius issues and assorted trade currency for decades prior. The timing was unfortunate — wartime disruption to shipping in the Indian Ocean made distribution irregular, and the Royal Mint in London was simultaneously under pressure from military production demands. Surviving examples from the 1939 issue tend to appear in higher grades than later dates simply because distribution delays kept many pieces from sustained circulation.
