| Beschrijving voorzijde | The left-facing effigy of King George V, designed by Edgar Bertram MacKennal, occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and attire. The king is depicted bare-headed, in keeping with British Commonwealth coinage convention of the period. The surrounding legend reads GEORGIVS V REX ET IND:IMP:, identifying the monarch as King and Emperor of India. Notably, this 1911 issue omits the customary DEI GRATIA formula, a distinctive characteristic that led to this emission being colloquially known as the 'Godless' issue. The truncation of the bust is sharply defined, and the overall portrait style reflects the Edwardian academic tradition of medallic portraiture. |
