East Africa's copper-nickel coinage of this period was administered through the East Africa Currency Board, established in 1905 to bring monetary order to British territories spanning modern Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The 10 cent denomination sat at an awkward practical level — large enough in physical terms to be burdensome in the pocket, yet modest in purchasing power against the Indian rupee system that still influenced regional trade accounting. Production was handled at the Royal Mint, with the series running across the turbulent years of the East Africa Campaign, during which German and British forces fought across the very territories where these coins circulated.
