| Obverse description | The full coat of arms of the Republic of Seychelles is displayed prominently in the central field, featuring a shield supported by two marlins and surmounted by an open helmet with a tropicbird as crest, with a scroll bearing the national motto FINIS CORONAT OPUS at the base. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin lettering, following the dodecagonal outline of the coin. Issued as part of the FAO coin program, which recruited national mints worldwide to strike agricultural-themed coinage in support of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's development initiatives. Seychelles joined the program shortly before formal independence from Britain in 1976, and this 1977 piece falls in the immediate post-independence period when the new Central Bank was establishing its own issuing identity.
The FAO series for Seychelles is a short run, making complete type sets harder to assemble than mintage figures alone suggest.
