Additional information

Ceylon's coinage reform of the mid-1960s involved extensive trial striking in multiple compositions before the definitive series was settled. This nickel brass piece — catalogued as a pattern under KM#Pn11 — was almost certainly produced at the Royal Mint in London as part of that evaluation process, never reaching circulation. Ceylon would ultimately choose a different alloy path for its 10-cent denomination before the republic replaced the crown entirely in 1972.
