The 75th anniversary issue marks three-quarters of a century since the Bluenose II design — itself a recreation of Emanuel Hahn's original 1937 dime reverse — became one of the most recognized images in Canadian pocket change. The Bluenose schooner herself was sold to a Caribbean trading company in 1942 and wrecked off Haiti in 1946, meaning the ship outlasted on coin than in wood by decades.
