Additional information

Fiji's third-portrait coinage of the mid-1980s arrived as the islands were approaching the political rupture of the 1987 coups — the first in May, the second in September — after which the Republic of Fiji ultimately severed ties with the Commonwealth. Coins bearing the effigy were eventually withdrawn and replaced with republican issues, making the 1986–1987 run the final Elizabeth II 10-cent pieces struck before that break.
