Obverse description The second effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Arnold Machin, is depicted in right-facing profile, showing the sovereign at approximately 37 years of age. The bust is draped and adorned with a tiara. The peripheral legend reads 'ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA' arcing above the effigy, identifying her as Queen by the Grace of God. The field is plain, and the portrait is rendered in a refined, idealized style characteristic of Machin's work for Commonwealth coinage.
