Additional information

The "modified" designation here refers to a subtle but catalogued change to Machin's second portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced to address long-standing complaints from vending machine operators across Canada that the effigy's relief was causing misreads in coin-sorting mechanisms. The adjustment was minor enough that most circulation examples require direct comparison to distinguish from earlier strikes.

KM#77.2 separates from 77.1 primarily on the truncation detail. Worth noting for date collectors: 1981 exists in both the older and revised portrait, making that year a transitional overlap worth examining closely.
