Canada's 2001 Year of the Volunteer initiative was part of a United Nations-designated global observance, and the Royal Canadian Mint issued a circulating commemorative dime that year to mark it — one of the few times a ten-cent denomination carried a purpose-built commemorative reverse in Canadian coinage history. This 2018 piece is a later fine silver restrike of that design, produced for the collector market nearly two decades after the original circulation issue.
The gap between the commemorated event and this restrike is wider than most in the RCM's retrospective program.
