This Rhodesian 10-cent piece was issued under the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland until 1963, then continued under Rhodesia proper through a period of acute political rupture. Ian Smith's Unilateral Declaration of Independence in November 1965 triggered immediate UN sanctions, yet coinage continued largely uninterrupted — the Royal Mint in London had already been supplying planchets and dies, and the physical infrastructure of currency production proved harder to sanction than trade goods.
The series ran through 1968, by which point Rhodesia had declared itself a republic, rendering the Elizabeth II obverse politically awkward on domestic terms.
