| 正面描述 | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a draped neckline, as sculpted by Cecil Thomas. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine surface detail to the hair and crown jewels. The surrounding legend reads QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND, disposed around the upper periphery. A beaded border frames the design, separated from the legend by a smooth field. |

Malaya and British Borneo was itself a short-lived monetary union, established in 1952 to consolidate the currency of several distinct British territories — Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak, North Borneo, and Brunei — under a single issuing board. This 1953 issue was among the first coins struck under that arrangement, appearing just as Elizabeth II's coronation gave the series its new effigy. The board dissolved in 1967 when Singapore and Malaysia each launched independent central banks, making the entire series a product of barely fifteen years of political compromise.
