Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a draped neckline, as sculpted by Cecil Thomas. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine surface detail to the hair and crown jewels. The surrounding legend reads QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND, disposed around the upper periphery. A beaded border frames the design, separated from the legend by a smooth field.

Reverse description The denomination 10 CENTS is prominently displayed in large numerals at the centre of the field, the numeral '10' featuring horizontally lined interior shading and bold outlined lettering for 'CENTS' below. The central device is enclosed within a beaded circle. The issuer legend MALAYA AND BRITISH BORNEO arcs around the upper periphery outside the beaded circle, while the date 1953 appears at the base flanked by two decorative rosette stops. The entire design is further enclosed by a reeded rim.
