Charles Vyner Brooke, the third and final White Rajah of Sarawak, issued this coinage under personal authority rather than British Crown mandate — Sarawak remained a private family fiefdom, not a Crown Colony, until 1946. The copper-nickel composition adopted here replaced the earlier silver 10-cent pieces, a shift driven by wartime metal economics that persisted into the interwar series.
Vyner's rule was marked by his long absences from Sarawak and a notoriously hands-off governing style that left much administration to his uncle, Bertram Brooke.
