Reverse description A superb lyrebird, rendered in intricate detail by Stuart Devlin, dominates the field, its elaborate tail plumage — comprising the distinctive lyre-shaped outer feathers and delicate filamentary inner feathers — fanning across the coin's surface. The denomination numeral 10 is prominently displayed to the left of centre, overlapping the bird's plumage. The engraver's initials SD appear at the lower right of the design. The reverse carries no surrounding legend, allowing the naturalistic depiction of this iconic Australian bird to fill the field. The design is largely unchanged from Devlin's original 1966 creation and remains one of the most celebrated reverses in Australian decimal coinage.
