Australia's decimal currency launched on 14 February 1966, when the Australian dollar replaced the pound at a two-to-one conversion rate — a transition the government promoted with a television campaign featuring a character called "Dollar Bill." This 2026 issue marks sixty years of that system, and it arrives early in Charles III's tenure on Australian coinage, his effigy having only begun appearing on RAM circulation issues from 2023 onward following the death of Elizabeth II.
