| Additional information |
Part of South Africa's ongoing "Natura" and conservation-themed silver series, this piece was issued to draw attention to the Agulhas Bioregion — the southernmost tip of the African continent and one of the world's six recognized floral kingdoms, the Cape Floristic Region, which packs more plant species per square kilometer than the Amazon basin. The region sits at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, a meeting point that has wrecked ships for centuries and gave the nearby bank its name from the Portuguese word for needles.
