Venda — one of the four nominally independent "homelands" created under apartheid-era territorial policy — was absorbed back into South Africa in 1994, yet its name persists on bilingual coinage pairings decades later. The South African Mint continues issuing separate Afrikaans and English date variants as a function of the dual-language circulation system, a practice rooted in the post-Union monetary framework rather than any contemporary political distinction.
