Obverse description The South African coat of arms is depicted centrally in the field, featuring a secretary bird with outstretched wings surmounting a shield supported by two human figures, with a spear and knobkierie crossed behind the shield. The motto ribbon at the base of the arms bears the legend !KE E:/XARRA //KE in the Khoisan language of the /Xam people. The country name AFORIKA BORWA in the Sotho language is inscribed in a divided legend flanking the coat of arms, with AFORIKA to the left and BORWA to the right. The date 2017 appears in the upper field above the coat of arms. The engraver's initials ALS appear in the lower field below the coat of arms.
