Redonda is a half-square-mile uninhabited rock in the Caribbean, administered by Antigua and Barbuda, which has never had a functioning economy or resident population to spend anything. Its "kingdom" status derives from an 1865 claim by Matthew Dowdy Shiell, later romanticized by his son the novelist M.P. Shiel, and the title has since passed through a succession of British literary figures including John Gawsworth. These coins are fantasy issues — struck for collectors with no monetary function whatsoever.
