Obverse description Central device depicts the Zimbabwe Bird, a soapstone sculptural motif derived from monolithic carvings discovered at the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, dating to between the 12th and 14th centuries and associated with the Gokomere-Shona cultural tradition. The stylised eagle figure is rendered in low relief, facing left, and serves as the national emblem of Zimbabwe. The legend ZIMBABWE arcs along the upper periphery, with the date below the central device.
