Villahermosa is a small municipality in the province of Ciudad Real, Castile–La Mancha. During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican zone experienced a near-total collapse of small-denomination coinage by 1937, forcing hundreds of local councils — ayuntamientos and consejos municipales alike — to print their own emergency paper or cardboard fractional notes. This is one of those issues: purely local, intended to substitute for the copper and bronze coins that had vanished from circulation through hoarding and wartime disruption.
The Gari Montllor catalogue remains the primary reference for these Spanish Civil War local emissions, and a listing there confirms genuine documentation rather than fantasy attribution.
