Vilafranca del Penedès, like dozens of Catalan towns in 1937, issued its own fractional scrip after the Republic's small coins effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent in a war economy. This note was issued by the Confederal Cooperative tied to the CNT, the anarcho-syndicalist union that controlled significant industrial and agricultural output across Catalonia during the early war years. The printer, Imprenta Unió Obrera — Workers' Union Press — was itself a collectivized operation, which makes the production chain here unusually coherent ideologically.

AL#2371 places it within the Amadeu Llorens census of Catalan civil war emergency issues, the primary reference for a series running into the thousands of distinct local pieces.
