Os de Balaguer is a small municipality in the Noguera comarca of Lleida, Catalonia. This 10 céntimos note is a Civil War-era emergency issue — one of thousands of locally printed vales and cartones produced across Republican-held Spain between 1936 and 1939 when small coinage effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted down almost immediately after the war broke out.

At this size and on card stock, it functions less as a banknote than as a token substitute. The official stamp is the only authentication measure, which was entirely typical for municipal issues of this kind and did nothing to prevent informal copying in some localities.
