Muniesa is a small municipality in the province of Teruel, Aragon — precisely the kind of rural community where anarchist collectivization took hold most completely during 1936–37. The Colectividad Libre de Muniesa was a genuine libertarian collective, and like dozens of similar bodies across Republican Aragon, it issued its own local currency to facilitate internal exchange after conventional money had largely ceased to function in the village economy.
