El Guijo is a small municipality in the comarca of Los Pedroches, Córdoba province, and like hundreds of similarly minor Spanish towns it was forced to produce its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation by late 1936. These municipal emissions — billetes de necesidad — were typically authorized by the local consejo or junta and printed or stamped on whatever card or heavy paper stock was available locally, which accounts for the irregular thickness often found across surviving examples from the same issue.
Gari Montllor's catalog remains the definitive reference for this class of material, and the 752-A designation places this firmly in the documented Córdoba provincial series.
