Cervera del Maestre is a small Valencian municipality that, like hundreds of others across Republican Spain, issued its own emergency fractional paper during the Civil War after metallic coin effectively vanished from circulation. The Generalitat de Catalunya and the Republican government tolerated — and eventually tried to regulate — this local note proliferation, but in 1937 municipal issues were still appearing with little central oversight.
