L'Aurora was a workers' cooperative society in Cabrera de Mataró, a small coastal town north of Barcelona. During the Civil War, the collapse of conventional currency in Republican-held Catalonia prompted hundreds of local entities — worker societies, town councils, trade unions — to print their own emergency fractional scrip. L'Aurora was one of them. These issues were purely local instruments, accepted within the immediate community and worthless beyond it.

The Allepuz catalog reference places this among the vast body of Catalan local war issues, most printed on whatever card stock was available. Survival rates vary wildly; rural and small-society issues like this one were rarely saved in quantity.
