Antoni Cabot's dairy — a vaquería — issued this 10 céntimos note in 1938 during the height of Republican Catalonia's wartime small-change crisis. Coin hoarding and metal shortages had gutted everyday commerce, pushing local businesses, cooperatives, and even individual shopkeepers to print their own emergency fractional currency. Hundreds of Catalan towns saw notes like this circulate, backed by nothing more than the issuer's local reputation.
Gràfics Miró operated out of Arenys de Mar itself, which was common for these hyper-local emissions — the printing rarely traveled far from the counter where the notes would be spent.
