Casino Industrial was one of dozens of Catalan civil society organizations — workers' clubs, cultural associations, mutual aid societies — that printed their own small-denomination emergency currency during the first year of the Civil War, when Republican-zone coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. The centimos denominations issued by these bodies were intended purely for local use, often accepted only within a single municipality or even a single establishment.
Arenys de Mar, a coastal town north of Barcelona, produced emergency notes through several local entities in 1937. The AL catalogue reference places this among the Generalitat-era locality issues documented by Amadeu Llorens.
