Albatárrech is a small municipality in the Lleida region of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similar villages during the Spanish Civil War, its local collectivity — here operating under the name "Colectividad Adelante" — issued its own emergency fractional currency when the Republic's small-denomination coinage vanished from circulation almost overnight in 1936. These village-level issues were never sanctioned by any central authority; they were purely local survival instruments, accepted only within the community that printed them.
At under two square centimeters, this is among the smallest emergency issues of the war. Paper this size degrades badly, and genuinely intact examples from Lleida-area collectivities are disproportionately rare relative to better-documented Catalan urban issues.
