| Opmerkingen |
Ababuj is a village in Teruel province, Aragon, with a population that barely reached a few hundred even in the 1930s. During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small-denomination coinage — the phenomenon was widespread enough that hundreds of municipalities, trade unions, and local authorities issued their own emergency fractional paper, collectively catalogued under the broad term moneda local. This note is precisely that: a hyper-local stopgap authorized by a village council with no monetary infrastructure whatsoever.
The Gari Mon reference places it firmly within the documented Aragonese municipal issues, but surviving examples from Ababuj are genuinely rare — the issuing pool was tiny, redemption rates uncertain, and wartime disruption to Teruel was severe.
