The Subsecretaría de Aviación's regional emergency issues of 1937 are among the more peculiar products of the Spanish Civil War's monetary fragmentation. With the Republican government unable to maintain reliable coin supply across its territory, aeronautical administrative units — not banks, not municipalities — began issuing their own small-denomination notes to pay staff and cover local transactions. The 3rd Air Region, based in Catalonia, was one of several such commands that filled the gap.
AL#1210 is a scarce issue simply because the issuing body was small and the circulation pool narrow.
