Angola's 1999 redenomination replaced the kwanza reajustado at a rate of one million to one, resetting a currency that had been gutted by decades of civil war and hyperinflation. Small-denomination coins of this issue saw almost no practical use — by the time they reached circulation, inflation had already eroded their purchasing power to near nothing.
