| Obverse description | Central device depicts a spread-winged eagle displayed, shown full-frontal with wings raised and flanked by two classical columns, evoking the heraldic arms of Besançon. The engraver's signature 'L. Hatot' appears incuse in the lower field. The date '1917' is inscribed in the upper portion of the square flan above the eagle's head.
