背面描述 The denomination 10.C. and the date 1848 with the Paris mint mark A are inscribed in two lines within a raised circular inner ring at the center of the field. Surrounding this central cartouche is a continuous composite wreath composed of oak and laurel branches, fully encircling the denomination and date. The republican motto LIBERTE * EGALITE * FRATERNITE * is distributed around the wreath in the outer legend, separated by five-pointed stars. A finely milled border ring frames the entire design at the coin's edge.

附加信息

The February Revolution of 1848 forced an immediate rethink of French coinage — the new Republic needed designs that shed all Orleanist association while projecting democratic legitimacy fast. Jean-Jacques Barre, then chief engraver at the Paris mint, submitted multiple competing projects for the reformed centime series, of which this tin trial is one of the earliest documented. Tin was the standard medium for internal pattern strikes at the time, never intended for circulation, and survivorship is accordingly low.

Mazeau's attribution to project "1" distinguishes it from Barre's subsequent submissions, cataloged separately under the same Gigante grouping.
