正面描述 Facing effigy of Marianne, personification of the French Republic, rendered in high relief with flowing hair adorned with oak leaves and a laurel wreath. The words LIBERTÉ and FRATERNITÉ appear inscribed on vertical ribbons flanking the face, while ÉGALITÉ is inscribed on a tablet at the crown of the head. The circular legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE runs along the outer border, and the engraver's name MOULLÉ appears in the lower exergue. The design is framed by a fine milled border.

附加信息

The February Revolution of 1848 overthrew Louis-Philippe and installed the Second Republic almost overnight, which left French monetary authorities scrambling to establish a new republican coinage. Pattern production in 1848 was prolific and competitive — private engravers and mint employees alike submitted proposals, and Moullé's tin submission was one of dozens that never advanced to official adoption. The Second Republic ultimately settled on designs by Barre, leaving Moullé's work a dead end.

Tin was an unusual choice for a pattern metal, suggesting this was a low-cost exploratory piece rather than a serious production proposal.
