The Republican motto LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ arcs around the upper periphery in bold raised Latin letters, separated by small dots. A beaded inner border frames the entire design. The combination of oak and olive branches is emblematic of strength and peace, reflecting the aspirations of the newly proclaimed French Republic.
