| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, engraved by Henri Alfred Auguste Dubois. The effigy is rendered in low relief within a recessed central disk, surrounded by a broad flat rim characteristic of essai coinage.
