| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, wearing a laureate wreath of wheat ears and a pearl necklace, her hair elaborately coiled at the nape. A small fasces is visible at the truncation of the bust. The engraver's signature L. MERLEY appears in small capitals below the bust along the inner circle, with the date 1887 in the exergue. The circular legend RÉPUBLIQUE ★ FRANÇAISE runs along the periphery, with a single five-pointed star at the top, all enclosed within a beaded inner border. |
