Cambodia's 1953 coinage was issued in the final months before full independence from France, formally recognized in November of that year. The pieces were struck at the Paris Mint under arrangements that still carried the institutional fingerprints of the French Union — the fleur de coin privy marks on these coins confirm Parisian production despite the Cambodian royal authority nominally behind the issue.
