| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of Napoleon III facing left, engraved by Jacques-Jean Barre, set within an inner beaded circle. The emperor's portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and facial features. The circular legend NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR runs around the periphery outside the beaded border, with the date positioned in the exergue below the bust. The engraver's name BARRE appears truncated at the base of the portrait. |
