| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Ceres, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, wearing a wreath of wheat ears and flowers in her hair, with flowing locks falling to her shoulder. The engraver's signature A. OUDINE appears below the truncation. The circular legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE runs along the rim, divided on either side of the effigy, within a beaded inner border. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style characteristic of Oudiné's work for the Second Republic. |
