Obverse description Laureate bust of the Republic facing left, her hair elaborately coiffed and gathered at the nape with a ribbon, wearing a wreath of wheat ears over flowing tresses. The effigy is rendered in high relief in a classical style, with no engraver's signature present in the field or on the truncation. The circular legend "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" runs along the periphery, divided by the bust, with beaded border surrounding the design.
