| Obverse description | Central device consisting of a Maltese-style cross with concave sides, its four arms radiating to the inner field, superimposed at the centre with a circular medallion bearing two clasped hands in relief, symbolising fraternity and union. The peripheral legend RÉPUBLIQUE DE LA GUYANNE INDÉPENDANTE arcs along the upper portion of the coin, with the date 1887 positioned at the base, all within a finely milled border. The design is rendered in low to medium relief on a plain field. |
