| Obverse description | At center, the crowned civic arms of Marseille — a quartered shield bearing a cross — flanked by caducei and anchors as supporters, with decorative foliage below. A circular medallion at the top of the design features a draped bust of Marianne (or Gallia) facing left, dated 1916 within the medallion's border. The circular legend CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE MARSEILLE runs around the periphery, with MASSILIA CIVITAS completing the inscription. The overall composition is rendered in a heraldic style characteristic of French Chamber of Commerce emergency coinage of the First World War period. |
