正面描述 The national arms of Argentina occupy the central field, depicting two clasped hands grasping a pole surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap (gorro frigio), symbolizing national unity and the defense of freedom. A radiant rising sun rises behind the device. The entire design is encircled by a laurel wreath. The legend REPUBLICA ARGENTINA arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto EN UNION Y LIBERTAD curves along the lower periphery, all in Latin script.

附加信息

Argentina's convertibility regime, pegged at one peso to one US dollar from 1991, created unusual monetary stability that kept these small-denomination coins in active circulation far longer than economic conditions might otherwise have allowed. When the peg collapsed catastrophically in late 2001 and early 2002, the ensuing cash crisis saw Argentines hoarding coins of any kind, briefly making even centavo pieces scarce at street level despite their face value being nearly worthless.

The non-magnetic aluminium bronze composition distinguishes this type from the later magnetic steel issues introduced as production costs rose.
