Honduras switched this denomination to brass after decades of cupro-nickel strikes, a change driven partly by raw material costs and partly by ongoing efforts to distinguish the 10 centavos from other denominations by feel — a persistent problem in the Honduran circulating series. The non-magnetic designation matters here because a parallel magnetic steel version was introduced for certain years, making attribution dependent on a simple magnet test rather than visual inspection alone.
