This piece is a mule — a coin struck from dies that were not intended to be paired together. Honduras in the 1870s relied heavily on contracted minting, and the Central American republic's monetary infrastructure was thin enough that mismatched die combinations occasionally escaped into circulation without correction. KM#42 documents this pairing specifically, which distinguishes it from standard 10 centavos production of the period.
Mules from small-volume Central American mints of this era are chronically underrepresented in auction records, making accurate population estimates nearly impossible.
