The Banco de Londres y Río de la Plata was a British-owned institution operating under Argentine provincial charters, and its Rosario branch issued its own notes distinct from the Buenos Aires house — a common arrangement in a country where provincial banking authority still outweighed federal coordination in the early 1870s.
